Hillcrest Village is at the Northeast end of North York Toronto, neighbouring Markham city and Scarborough Town. It is home to Seneca College Newnham Campus and AY Jackson Secondary School.

Community Overview

The community of Hillcrest Village runs from Leslie Road on the west to Finch Avenue in the south, Victoria Park/Highway 404 on the east, and Steeles Avenue on the north. Hillcrest Village can be split into three zones demarcated by highway 404 and Don Mills Road. East of Highway 404 is exclusively populated with commercial real estate. And the centre area will be Seneca College on the south and two residential areas on the north, separated by Highland Memory Gardens & Cemetery. Further West of Don Mills are primarily detached homes with numerous houses backing on beautiful Duncan Creek Park.

1. Housing:

The real estate in Hillcrest Village North York is mingled principally with Detached Homes, Semi-Detached houses, and Condo Townhomes. Most property developments in this part of North York happened in the 1960s and 1970s; hence bungalow, back-split, and side-split detached homes are prevalent here. Semi-Detached Houses are mainly concentrated on the east side of Don Mills Road, while Condo Townhouses can be found near Steels Avenue and along Don Mills Road and Finch Avenue. There are also several high-rise condo buildings near Seneca College and low-rise buildings near Steels Avenue. 4000 Don Mills Road is a social housing apartment supervised by Toronto Community Housing Corporation. In this community, around 25% of occupants are renters.

2. Demographic:

Over 50% of residents living in Hillcrest Village are Chinese. Persian, Korean and Romanian languages are other typical languages used in many homes of this community. While median income is on par with Toronto's average, a remarkably higher number of residents received a bachelor's or higher education. The proportion of senior citizens in Hillcrest Village is higher than Toronto's average.

3. Transportation:

Around 30% of residents travel by public transit. Several buses furnished by Toronto Transit Commission and York Region Transit operate through the community. TTC bus routes also connect to Don Mills Subway station, which converges with the central transit system to downtown Toronto. Old Cummer Go Station, located west of Leslie Street, presents passengers with an alternative method to journey to Union Station in roughly 30 minutes by Go Train. Bordering Highway 404, car commuters can quickly get on the highway via entries from Steeles Avenue and Finch Avenue. Furthermore, Highway 401 is less than a few km away from the community.

4. Recreation:

Duncan Creek and numerous parks offer residents natural splendour to enjoy. Duncan Creek Park, Cresthaven Park, McNicoll Park, Willesden Park and Cliffwood Park offer kids' playgrounds, tennis courts, soccer fields, basketball courts, and walking trails. Seneca Village Community Centre, located near Don Mills Road and Finch Avenue, is a favourite destination for locals featuring a variety of recreational programs for all ages. Cummer Park Community Centre is a comprehensive large community centre with an indoor swimming pool, an ice hockey rink, outdoor tennis courts, a baseball field and a basketball court.

5. Shopping:

Restaurants, banks, and many shops are spread over community borders. At Steeles and highway 404, Steeles & 404 Mall is an indoor mall anchored by Food Basic supermarket. Finch & Leslie Square plaza is a small shopping area at Leslie Street and Finch Avenue, which offers a Chinese supermarket, CIBC bank, restaurants and service shops. Close to Seneca College is Skymart Place Shopping Mall. It has No Frills Supermarket, RBC Bank and restaurants.

6. Schools:

Arbor Glen Public School in Northeast, Cliffwood Public School in Northwest, Hillmount Public School in Southeast, and Cresthaven Public School in Southwest are four elementary schools serving students from GK to grade 5. Arbor Glen Elementary School was established in 1975 and is a highly diversified school with students from 25 different countries. Cliffwood Elementary School offers French Immersion courses. Many students were from different cultural backgrounds, such as China, Korea, Japan, the Middle East, etc. Established in 1971, Hillmount Elementary School offers gifted classes (Junior Gifted Program), learning disability classes (Junior LD Program), and art classes (Arts Program).

Highland Middle School and Zion Heights Middle School admit students from Grade 6 to Grade 8. For high school, located at Leslie and Steeles Avenue, AY Jackson Secondary School accepts students in the community. AY Jackson School ranks top 52 over 700 high schools in Ontario. The school offers AP courses and gifted classes. The school accepts international students, so there are students from all over the world.

Seneca College, a public post-secondary institution, has its largest campus in Hillcrest Village. This campus offers business, arts, engineering and technology to students.

Hillcrest Village is a beautiful community in the Northeast of North York, right beside Markham and Scarborough.
